Program/Source Code:

The source code to compare strings using the equals() method is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to compare strings
// using equals() method

object Sample {
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var str1 = "Hello";
    var str2 = "hello"
    var str3 = "hello"

    if (str1.equals(str2))
      println("Match");
    else
      println("No Match");

    if (str2.equals(str3))
      println("Match");
    else
      println("No Match");
  }
}

Output:

No Match
Match

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we created an object Sample. Here, we defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created three string variables str1str2str3 that are initialized with "Hello", "hello", "hello" respectively. Then we compared strings using the equals() method. The equals() method returns a Boolean value. If two strings matched then it will return true otherwise it will return false. After that, we printed the appropriate message on the console screen.
