Program/Source Code:

The source code to get the absolute value of a given number is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to get the absolute value
// of a given number

object Sample{
    def main(args:Array[String]){
        var num:Double    = 0;
        var res:Double = 0;

        print("Enter number: ")
        num=scala.io.StdIn.readDouble()

        res= scala.math.abs(num)
        println("result: "+res);
    }
}

Output:

Enter number: -23.456
result: 23.456

Explanation:

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. Here, we created an object Sample. We defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two variables numres that are initialized with 0. Then we read the value of the num variable from the user and then we got the absolute value of a given number using scala.math.abs() function and printed the result on the console screen.
