Here, we will read an integer number from the user and perform the bitwise right-shift (>>) operation. After that, we will print the result of the right shift operation on the console screen.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to demonstrate the bitwise right-shift (>>) operator is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to demonstrate the
// bitwise right-shift (>>) operator

object Sample{
    def main(args:Array[String]){
        var number:Int=0
        var result:Int=0

        print("Enter number: ")
        number=scala.io.StdIn.readInt()

        result = number >> 3

        println("Result: "+result)
    }
}

Output:

Enter number: 128
Result: 16

Explanation:

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. Here, we created an object Sample. We defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created two integer variables numberresult, that are initialized with 0. Then we read the value of number from the user and then we right-shifted 3 bits of the number using the >> operator. After that, we printed the result of the right shift operation on the console screen.

Evaluation of right-shift operation:

Here, we entered the value 128 for integer variable number, now we will evaluate the below expression.

result = number >> 3
result = 128 / (23)
result = 128 / 8
result = 16

After that, we printed the value of the variable result on the console screen.
