I have used python 3.7 compiler for debugging purpose.

filename = input("Input the Filename: ")
f_extns = filename.split(".")
print ("The extension of the file is : " + repr(f_extns[-1]))

Result:

Input the Filename: tech.txt

The extension of the file is : 'txt'
