Here, we will create a string and then replace the first substring matching the regular expression using the replaceFirst() method. After that, we will print the result on the console screen.

Program/Source Code:

The source code to demonstrate the replaceFirst() method is given below. The given program is compiled and executed on the ubuntu 18.04 operating system successfully.

// Scala program to demonstrate
// the replaceFirst() method

object Sample {
  def main(args: Array[String]) {
    var str: String = "MAN WAN LAN PAN NEWTWORK";
    var res: String = "";

    res = str.replaceFirst(".AN", "##");
    printf("Result:\n%s\n", res);
  }
}

Output:

Result:
## WAN LAN PAN NEWTWORK

In the above program, we used an object-oriented approach to create the program. And, we created an object Sample. Here, we defined main() function. The main() function is the entry point for the program.

In the main() function, we created a string variable str initialized with "MAN WAN LAN PAN NETWORK". Then we replaced the first substring with "##", matching specified regular expression in the replaceFirst() method and assigned the result into res variable, and then printed the result on the console screen.
