d. Indications for performing a mastectomy in lieu of any other procedure include:

 • A lump of 4cm or greater.

• A multi-focal cancer.

• Centrally located cancer.

• Patient choice (in the presence of a breast lump).

Fibroadenomas are often managed conservatively and 1/3 regress and disappear in their own time. If they cause significant discomfort or are greater than 4cm they may be considered for removal.
