a. The mechanism of action of atropine is via blockage of the vagus nerve and subsequently enhances sinus node automaticity and atrioventricular conduction:

• Atropine causes blockade of parasympathetic activity at both the sinoatrial (SA) node and the atrioventricular (AV) node it may increase sinus automaticity and facilitate AV node conduction.

• Dosages of atropine for adults in asystole, or pulseless electrical activity with a rate less than 60 beats per minute, is 3mg i.v..

Atropine may increase myocardial oxygen demand and unmask sympathetic overactivity.
