Can I drink alcohol after my transplant?

Virtually all liver transplant programs prohibit the use of alcohol after transplantation. Much of your own effort and the efforts of your family and physicians will be dedicated to keeping your liver healthy. This program includes proper nutrition, medications, and exercise. The deliberate ingestion of alcohol is in direct opposition to this goal. If your transplanted liver is destroyed by alcohol use, it is extremely unlikely that you would be accepted for a second liver transplant.
