Recursion : :

  • Recursion is the process of repeating items in a self-similar way. In programming languages, if a program allows you to call a function inside the same function, then it is called a recursive call of the function.
  • The C programming language supports recursion, i.e., a function to call itself. But while using recursion, programmers need to be careful to define an exit condition from the function, otherwise it will go into an infinite loop.
  • Recursive functions are very useful to solve many mathematical problems, such as calculating the factorial of a number, generating Fibonacci series, etc.

Below is the source code for C Program to Display a number in words using Recursion which is successfully compiled and run on Windows System to produce desired output as shown below :

SOURCE CODE : :

/*    Display a number in words*/

#include<stdio.h>
void f(int n);

int main()
{
        int num ;
        printf("Enter any number :: ");
        scanf("%d",&num);
        f(num);

        return 0;

}

void f(int n)
{
        if(n==0)
                return;

        f(n/10);

        switch(n%10)
        {
                case 0: printf("zero ");break;
                case 1: printf("one ");break;
                case 2: printf("two ");break;
                case 3: printf("three ");break;
                case 4: printf("four ");break;
                case 5: printf("five ");break;
                case 6: printf("six ");break;
                case 7: printf("seven ");break;
                case 8: printf("eight ");break;
                case 9: printf("nine ");break;
        }
}

OUTPUT  : :

************* OUTPUT **************

************* FIRST RUN ***********

Enter any number :: 123456

Number 123456 in Words :: one two three four five six

************* SECOND RUN ***********

Enter any number :: 47908

Number 47908 in Words :: four seven nine zero eight
