It is a syndrome in which patients with cerebral disease present with hypo- natremia along with the presence of polyuria, elevated urinary sodium levels, and dehydration despite the presence of a low serum sodium concentration and adequate fluid intake (Table 17.2 and Fig. 17.1).

Causes:

• Aneurysmal SAH

• Head trauma

• Central nervous system (CNS) malignancy

• Central nervous system (CNS) infections

• Postoperative neurosurgical setting.
